Term 4 PBL

Hi and welcome back to my blog

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science`
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance MnM's for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because we worked better as a team and we listened to  everyone’s ideas

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made some lip scrubs and stress balls and we also did a bean bag toss and had lollies as prises


Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was making the lip scrubs and flavouring them because it was fun and we worked together well

Next time I would organise everything a bit more so we don’t run out of time to make more things

PBL Term Three

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;

What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is where you are from and cultures have Traditions. There is all sorts of different traditions that country’s have.

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.

In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Maui Slowed The Sun,  and The Battle Of the Mountains. I retold the legend of Maui Slowed The Sun in my own words.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reading evidence

Hi and welcome back to my Blog. 

In Tumu we have been doing some reading evidence kind of like my other one on my maths evidence, but it is reading. What I have done is made a character web on Pai a child in a story named The spirit of the bird.

Hi and welcome back to my blog. In Tumu our learning focus in P.B.L is What is your cultures tradition. My culture is English.
Traditional Food
Some of the traditional food is fish’n chips and fry ups here is a few pictures of them if you don’t know what they look like.


Traditional Dances
In England one of the traditional dances is Morris dancing here is a clip of the type of dance.

Traditional Sports
 England's traditional sports are Cricket and Football. 


Christmas Traditions  
In England they meet together and have a Christmas turkey for lunch or dinner and sing Christmas carols.

Winter Sport

Hi welcome back to my blog

Recently Tumu and Kaupeka hub have been going to Winter sport, for the past 4 weeks we couldn't go because it was to wet but finally yesterday it wasn't cancelled so we were able to play.
For Thursday Sport I play netball and I am in the Killer Bees, The Killer bees were going good in the first quarter but in the second and third we were not going as good. But in the end The St Francis Killer Bees won 9 - 7.

So that is it for today.

In May 2018 I went to Life Ed to see Harold the Giraffe. If you don't know who Harold the Giraffe is, he is a giraffe that has been around since 1987. I know it was such a long time ago, wasn't it. It was around when my teacher was a kid.

Reading eggs

Hi Guys welcome back to my blog we have made it through a whole year and it is now 2018

Today I am going to talk to you about reading eggs, a website that our school goes on in reading sometimes. It is were you have reading tasks to do and you earn eggs for getting a certain amount of right answers. With the eggs you can buy things and put them in your house, and you can verse people all around the world.
We do reading eggs to help us learn in a fun way.

Athletics

Athletics

Hey Guys welcome back to my blog.

On Wednesday we had athletics. 

There was

• Sprints 
• long disstance
• high jump
• long jump
• shot put
• discuss

First up we ran our sprints and long distance races. In the 50m sprints I came 3rd place and for the 80m sprints I came in 2nd place. For the long distance, I came 6th or 7th place and it was really tiring!

In the afternoon we tackled the field events. In the high jump,  my highest jump was 95m and in long jump my longest jump was 200m. The next two events were shot put and discus but I forgot how far I threw in these.


Today was fun and hot

Twins

Hi Guys welcome back to my blog today I will tell you about twins hope you like it.

Twins 

Some of you don't know that I am a twin but I am with someone named Caitlin.

• When you are twins there are two types of things that you can be fraternal or identical.
• Identical means when you both look the same.
• Fraternal means when you do not look the same.

Me and Caitlin are fraternal twins and you would know that if you have seen us before.

Star Jam

On Friday we as a school we did jump jam to raise money for star jam, we each brought a $2 coin in for a wrist band and the $2 coins were used to fund raise.

I was one of the leaders because I am in jump jam and all of the jump jam People were leading the whole school.

Hey guys welcome back to my blog today I am going to share with you some team building activities we have done at school hope you enjoy!

My favourite challenge was the marshmallow spaghetti tower building.

1. Marshmallow spaghetti tower building

for this event we had to build towers out of marshmallow and hard pasta. At first we were going really well but then it  started leaning and it was getting really bad but it was not to bad  but we still came second. It was hard to trust each other because I thought that they would knock it over. We worked well together because we were talking well and stuff like that.
 Another thing we did well together was doing the thing. It was really fun, I hope you liked it. Do you think you work well in a team?

              

The puppy seller

This is my writing that I did for one of my work shops, called Step Out Writing. I hope you enjoy, feel free to comment.

The Puppy Seller

Once there lived a puppy seller. He sold fat puppies and small puppies tall puppies, he sold all sorts of puppies. One day there was an animal market and he went there to sell his puppies. A few minutes later he was getting tired so he sat down in a bush to go to sleep.

But when he fell asleep a donkey came and took the puppies then the puppy seller woke up to a he ho he ho. He looked up and didn’t see anything he looked down saw nothing looked left and saw nothing looked right and saw nothing looked in front of him  there was donkey standing there with his puppies on his back. So he shouted at the donkey and the donkey got scared and dropped the puppies then ran away. The puppy seller was relieved that the donkey dropped the puppies. So then the puppy seller went home.

The next day the puppy seller went back to the market to sell his puppies again but then he saw a humongous butterfly and then it took the puppies on her back and the puppy seller remembered about the donkey and shouted at the butterfly but the butterfly flew away never to be seen again, with the puppy seller’s most precious puppies.

My family treasure

My Family Treasure

My family treasure is this toy and it is very special to me because my Grandma and Granddad gave it to me. They live in England so I hardly ever get to see them and I think I was 3 years old when I got it . It’s name is Iggle Piggle and it is from the program, In the night garden. I have also got Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka, Tombliboos, and the Ninky nonk, and Dinky Donk. I usually sleep with them at night, and Iggle Piggle also has this blanket with it and you can put it on and off.
